The Scheme supports all small enterprises operating in townships and rural areas that meet the qualifying criteria including but not limited to the following sectors:

  • Clothing & Textile

  • Bakeries & Confectionaries

  • Tshisanyama and Cooked Food

  • Retail (including restaurants, car washes, general dealers etc.)

  • Automotive

  • Personal Care

  • Artisans

Qualifying Criteria 

SMME, Co-Operative or Startup;

  • must operate in Gauteng and have its head office in Gauteng
  • be 100% South African owned
  • be trading for over a year
  • be registered with CIPC and
  • be compliant with SARS
  • have a valid South African identity document
  • and be 100% SA owned

Informal traders 

The BIDC is a CSIR initiative to provide technical product and process development support to Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) in the biomanufacturing sector, with the aim of creating and expanding biomanufacturing activity and associated job creation.
