The establishment of the UKZN’s tech transfer office is part of an initiative to promote and support innovative development programmes. There we assist staff and students to protect their IP as well as develop strategies to market and license the resultant technologies.

We carry out all technology transfer, entrepreneurial support and development and innovation at the University. One of South Africa's oldest university tech transfer offices and one of its most successful, we have spun out 23 companies, licensed 67 technologies and filed 114 international patents.

Founded in 1904, Rhodes University has a well-established reputation for academic excellence. With just over 8200 students, Rhodes is a small University, which enjoys the distinction of having among the best undergraduate pass and graduation rates in South Africa, outstanding postgraduate success rates, and the best research output per academic staff member. This research-rich environment is also a massive resource for innovation, and technology transfer activities started at Rhodes University in 2010 in the Research Office.
