Khoebo Innovation Promotion Programme (KIPP) is a programme of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dtic) managed by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), the objective of KIPP is to enable early-stage innovative SME’s to penetrate the market with their locally developed innovations resulting in a more competitive economic environment and thereby facilitating economic growth in the South African Economy.

The following eligibility criteria are required to ensure that outputs are maximised and that the goals and objectives of the IDC are met. Successful applications should meet all of the following requirements and terms. If any are not met at the time of application, and the requisite documentation not supplied, the application will be rejected:

Closing date

The Innovation Fund was established by the Department of Science and Innovation to enhance SA’s capacity to commercialise technological innovations. The objectives of the Innovation Fund are to serve as an opportunity to de-risk investments through technology development and demonstration and to serve as a catalyst for co-investment and follow-on investment from industry and private sector sources (commercial funding). TIA is one of the implementing partners alongside the other entities involved in investment and corporation alike.

Stage 

  • Post revenue; Pre-revenue (but with developed IP or prototype). The venture must demonstrate commercial potential.

  • Addressing one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Team 

At least one founder/CEO must be full-time. Women-led or youth-led businesses are particularly encouraged to apply, as are businesses led by persons from historically disadvantaged communities.
