The African Regional Science Technology and Innovation Forum issued a call for innovations ahead of its regional forum held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from 24 -27 February 2020. The Forum is co-organized with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and South Africa’s Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). The basis of the call was to showcase innovations that contribute significantly to the attainment of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. With the main objective being, to encourage collaborations and partnerships, investment in innovation, information sharing and technology diffusion as well as to bring innovation to the global stage and stimulate interest in Science Technology and Innovation (STI).

The Forum received overwhelming submissions from Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s), Science Councils and Institutions of Higher Learning across the African Continent.  Of the received submissions, 10 innovations were declared winners of the African Science Technology and Innovation Forum 2020 Innovation in Action Competition and invited to showcase their innovations at the African Regional STI Forum. The victors are profiled on the Forums website as well as the Innovation Bridge Portal, the touted open innovation platform accelerating knowledge sharing, innovation and technology development by the forum. The Innovation Bridge Team is pleased to have been invited to participate in the premier regional Forum. The team is also privileged to have been entrusted with showcasing the 10 innovations on the Innovation Bridge Portal to increase their chances of reaching potential commercialisation partners or investors. “It is our greatest wish that collaborations such as this between the STI Forum and the Innovation Bridge Portal, serves as a catalyst to further support the magnificent innovations created by the African Continent” said the Innovation Bridge Portal Development Project Manager.
