Wits researchers have developed a water treatment plant which removes organic pollutants from municipal bulk water. The process is environmentally friendly, making use of sunlight to purify water, thus saving energy and eliminating the need to use chemicals. Its modular design allows for scaling...

Surfactants are amphipathic molecules with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties that partition preferentially at the interface between fluid phases such as oil/water or air/water interfaces. Such characteristics confer excellent detergency, emulsifying, foaming, and dispersing traits, which...

Leak detection and management is an important topic in the management of water distribution systems. Various instruments and measurement techniques have been developed to identify the occurrences and locations of new leaks in large distribution systems and networks.

UCT researchers...

Globally, freshwater is a precious resource that needs to be managed properly. Considerable amounts of freshwater supplied via bulk distribution systems are lost through leakages in poorly maintained water network infrastructure. Utilities, network operators, and other relevant...

Competition entrants should submit their proposed designs of reusable packaging items and/or systems that would replace single-use packaging items at a B2B (business to business) or B2C (business to consumer) facing level. Designs should include the systems and mechanisms which would be used to complete the packaging reuse cycle.

The proposed innovations are not limited to physical products, but could also be systems or models for the reuse cycling of packaging items.
