NEMISA will be hosting a virtual Data Science Hackathon in all Provinces from 26-28 February 2021; 

  • North West - Mahikeng Digital Innovation Hub;
  • Northern Cape – Sol Plaatje University;
  • KwaZulu Natal – Innovate Durban;
  • Gauteng – University of Johannesburg;
  • Western Cape – OpenUp;
  • Eastern Cape – The Cortex Hub;
  • Mpumalanga – University of Mpumalanga;
  • Limpopo – University of Limpopo and;
  • Free State – Mirae Robotics and Automation Solutions

Full description

This particular hackathon seeks to engage with government data to unlock insights that could inform policy decisions. The hackathon is a collaborative multi-stakeholder partnership between provincial governments, universities, the youth, digital technology experts and mentors in partnership with data science enthusiasts.

Prizes per province 

Main winner - R 15 000

1st Runner up - R 10 000

2nd Runner up - R 5000

Special prize

R100,000 towards the improvement of the overall winner solution (Prototype Development).
