Fruit Waste to Solve Inherited Water Problems According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a process for the bioremediation of acid mine tailings comprising or consisting of contacting the acid mine tailings with banana fruit waste. Depending on the desired outcome of the bioremediation process, the process may comprise or consist of contacting acid mine tailing material with banana fruit waste at a ratio of 20:80, 50:50 or 80:20 acid mine tailing to banana fruit waste. For example, the process may be for reduction of sulphate content of the acid mine tailings, for heavy metal precipitation and/or for increasing the potential of hydrogen (pH) of the acid mine tailings to neutral or alkaline pH. For example, heavy metals to be precipitated may include Aluminium, Iron, Zinc, Manganese, and Copper (Al, Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu respectively).
